RE-HOMING ANIMALS: LAWS tries to find new homes for animals that have been abused, neglected, abandoned or otherwise surrendered through no fault of their own. We ensure every animal we rescue is de-wormed, vaccinated, treated medically where necessary, neutered and re-homed as fast as possible. You are always welcome to come to the Shelter any time between 08h00 - 17h00 to see the animals available for adoption.click here for directions to the shelter.... these guys need a garden to play in.

ANTI-CRUELTY AND ANIMAL RESCUE: We counsel individuals and groups on animal care issues. We have made public appearances on MUVI-TV and other public and media venues. We are available to come to your school or organization to discuss animal care issues.
Please send your request to our Education Coordinator Gilly at CLOAKING .... there's no excuse for ignorance !

RABIES CAMPAIGNS AND MOBILE VET CLINICS: LAWS has run 9 free Rabies Vaccination Campaigns so far (at Chipata, Linda, Matero, Kalingalinga and Chunga Compounds), vaccinating nearly 6000 animals at no cost to their owners thanks to support from the Becky James Charity, RSPCA and local individuals. In September 2009, we also ran our first ever Mobile Vet Clinic with the support of Worldwide Veterinary Services (WVS) at Chunga Compound where over 600 dogs were de-wormed, dipped or treated for medical conditions free-of-charge.
... please read about them in our Newsletters and Press Releases.

SPAYING/NEUTERING: Many Zambian pet owners cannot afford to spay or neuter their pets as the cost of these surgeries (K400,000-K700,000) is equivalent to almost one month's salary for the average Zambian. We work together with 7 local veterinary clinics all around Lusaka and pay for the sterilization of their pets. We are able to offer this service thanks to the financial support from Spay is the Way, Danida, Ad-dicts Ads and SPCA International. Spaying and neutering will help us control domestic animal numbers and ensure their humane treatment in the greater Lusaka area.So far a total of 533 pets have been sterilized with our help.

... ouch !

The LAWS Shelter...

LAWS manages a small shelter that can house up to 30 dogs and 10 cats. Every animal that we rescue is de-wormed, vaccinated, treated medically where necessary, neutered and re-homed as fast as possible. Nonetheless, our shelter is almost always full as the number of adoptive families falls short of the number of animals needing help. You are always welcome to come to the shelter at any time to see the animals that are available for adoption.

LAWS shelter is located on Sadzu Road, off Kabelenga Road between Great East and Church Roads.

Please see our directions to the shelter.

In addition to our Operations Manager and Committee Members, three staff members help feed, wash and take care of the animals at the shelter. Our staff are excellent with the animals but do not have enought time to play, socialize and give basic training to the animals. We very much welcome volunteers (adults or children) who can come to the shelter and help socialize the animals, take them for walks and play with them. Better yet, if you can, please adopt an animal!
